The Mill Street Library renovation project is moving out of the demolition phase and into the construction phase.
According to Project Manager, Mark Hicks of D&H Architects, the elevator project is currently on schedule and on budget.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Thank you for your ongoing support as we create a library that is fully accessible for everyone.
A reminder that material should not be returned to the Mill Street Library as it is a construction site. Please return your items at the train station at 49 Town Line (drive south on Mill Street to Town Line) or at the Alder Street Library.

The early stages of our Mill Street Library renovation are well under way, and there has been a flurry of activity as staff are preparing the site to turn over to the contractors. It’s involved more than just moving books and shelves.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Wednesday, October 5
As part of the library’s commitment to providing accessible customer service, a new elevator is being built in the downtown branch. The current 1980s vintage hydraulic lift will undergo a full reconstruction to create an elevator that is AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) compliant.
The last day of regular operations at the Mill Street location is on Saturday, October 8 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Starting Tuesday October 11, Alder Street Library will have extended hours to serve the needs of Orangeville residents while Mill Street is closed.
Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
The Mill Street drop box will be closed for returns. An alternate location in the downtown is planned and will be shared when finalized. Library patrons who borrowed a book from the Mill Street location can return borrowed materials to Alder Recreation Centre location.
We’re in the process of re-organizing all programs to run out of the Alder Recreation Centre location or other external locations where possible. As library programs are relocated, updates will be shared with the public.
We thank all library users for their patience as we work to provide more accessible customer service to our patrons.
