It is with a mix of pride and bittersweet emotions that we announce the departure of Shannon McGrady, a treasured member of the Orangeville Public Library team. Shannon's last day with the library will be October 9th, 2025, as she embarks on an exciting new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Shelburne Public Library.
Over the past nearly 12 years, Shannon has profoundly impacted our library and community. Her leadership and dedication have been pivotal in the library's pursuit of excellence, earning her numerous accolades including the esteemed Provincial Angus Mowat Award of Excellence. Shannon's commitment to inclusive and innovative library services is reflected in her pioneering initiatives such as truth and reconciliation projects and the People and culture Plan for the Town of Orangeville.
Additionally, Shannon's contributions to the Ontario Library Association Child and Youth Services Committee and her advocacy for inclusivity have set new standards for library programming. Her "Social Justice Storytime" session at the 2022 OLA Conference showcased her expertise and commitment to meaningful community engagement.
Beyond her professional achievements, Shannon is celebrated for her compassionate nature and ability to connect with patrons of all ages, enriching lives through diverse programming and community outreach. Her role as "Storytime superstar Ms. Shannon" and her creativity in program development have left an unforgettable legacy.
Shannon has also been an inspiring mentor to staff, promoting continuous improvement and lifelong learning. Her efforts have fostered a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging at the Orangeville Public Library.
