Getting Started with the Libby App

OverDrive’s Libby app is the easiest way to get started with digital books and audiobooks from the Orangeville Public Library. Libby is available for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows.

  1. Install the Libby app from your device's app store. (Apple App Store; Google Play; or Windows Store)
  2. Libby will guide you through the process when you open the app. First, confirm you have a library card.
  3. Find the Orangeville Public Library from the dropdown menu. Hint - type in "O"
  4. Tap and then sign in with your library card (all fourteen digits starting with zero – no spaces). Libby will remember your library membership number.

Find Books

Tap the  building icon at the bottom of the app to go to the library's collection. If you are looking for a specific book or author, use the  magnifying glass icon at the bottom of your screen.
  1. To find out more about a title, tap on the cover. This will bring you to a page where you can read a summary, read or listen to a sample, and view other titles in the series if applicable.
  2. All audiobooks have an  earphones symbol and its length below the cover.

Borrow Books

  1. Tap on the  button, and then confirm that you would like to borrow the book. The title will be checked out to you for two weeks and may automatically download to the app depending on your device’s settings and connection to Wi-Fi.
  2. Borrowed titles appear on your  Shelf.
  3. From your Shelf, you can Tap "Open Book" or "Open Audiobook" to start reading or listening.
  4. Tap "Manage Loan" for options such as renew or return.

Place a Hold

  1. If all copies of a book are currently in use, "Place Hold" will replace "Borrow".
  2. You can set your notification choices by tapping the  symbol in the icon bar at the bottom of your screen.
  3. You can check on the progress of your Holds. Navigate to your  Shelf  and Tap the tag at the top of the page. You'll be able to see how long you will have to wait for the item. Sometimes the item will come faster than that though because people cancel their holds, or the library may buy extra copies.

Need Help?

  1. Go to the Ontario Library Service Download Centre.
  2. Click on “Help” in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. The menu at the top offers device-specific instructions and how-to videos.
  4. If you're still having trouble, bring in your device and one of our friendly staff members will walk you through the set up process and show you how to search for items to borrow. Drop in or make an appointment.

 eReader, Laptop or Desktop Computer

Using one of these devices is slightly more complicated because it requires the use of Adobe Digital Editions. There are great device specific setup guides in the Help section of the Download Centre.

Having Trouble Logging in?

If you are unable to login, please contact the library. It may be an issue with your library card which we can resolve over the phone or by email, or it may be a technical issue.
