laser cutter and laptop on a worktop

The XTool P2S is a desktop laser cutter, and it uses a 55-watt CO2 laser to engrave, score, and cut a variety of materials. There is a connection required with a computer to use this machine, and the software XTool Studio is used to apply settings and design and position the engravings and cuts.

While in operation, it is important to be safe. The laser cannot be used on materials with finishes, as this will create toxic by-products. The machine must be ventilated with appropriate air flow while in operation. Do not look directly at the laser without appropriate eyewear. There is an emergency button on the side of the machine.

Production cost:

Use of the XTool P2S is free, but there is a cost associated with materials that can be used with the machine. Users are able to bring in their own materials to use, but these will need to be checked by staff before using. Below are some of the materials that can be purchased from the library:

  • Walnut plywood sheet (12”x12”x0.125”)- $8
